This book is very well written by two of the leading coding experts in the world. The emphasis is on modern iteratively decoded codes and heavily weighted toward LDPC codes. The LDPC codes have borrowed heavily from classical codes and have transformed themselves into LDPC code classes. The book is for the advanced graduate researcher and the practicing coding engineer. The book is not a coding cookbook, the state of iterative coding today is still in its adolescent stage. There are still interesting problems to solve and they are alluded to in the book and the advanced topics chapter. This is must reading for the coding researcher and those working on next generation communications at the physical layer.

This book shows some details in LDPC codes and EXIT charts that you would not found in other literature. Another aspect that conduct me to buy this book was the Authors (William Ryan and Shu Lin) who are a reference in terms of channel coding and theoretical analysis. The book is organized in such way that you can improve your knowledge step by step. The details how to build modern LDPC codes are very didactic and self learning. If you have the chance to buy it do not hesitate. I strongly recommend this book.
